Cushing Design Co. is a boutique heritage consulting firm based in Windsor, Nova Scotia.
We are dedicated to preserving and revitalizing historic architecture, championing sustainability through thoughtful design, and preserving quality local craftsmanship. By reimagining spaces with respect for their history and the artisans who shaped them, we breathe new life into historic buildings while minimizing environmental impact.
We work with our clients to plan, design, and conserve cultural heritage resources (e.g. historic homes, commercial/ institutional buildings, streetscapes, agricultural buildings, landscapes, etc.) with a focus on historical integrity, sustainability, and custom curation.
Historic Inspired Design
Cushing Design Co. provides exterior and interior heritage design guidance to property owners who are looking to renovate their homes to be more historically accurate. This work is informed by professional experience in heritage planning, which allows us to anticipate concerns early and design with approvals in mind - saving clients time, stress, and costly revisions.
The process involves a complimentary site visit for an initial discussion about the scope of work and Client needs, and to document the building through photographs. Background research is conducted to develop an understanding of the age, history, and architectural style of the home.
Cushing Design Co. produces design drawings, elevations, and renderings and can also coordinate with the Client’s preferred contractor during the implementation phases of a project.

Cushing Design Co. is dedicated to sourcing, restoring and preserving the timeless design of salvaged historic building materials.
We source architecturally salvaged materials and antiques, in alignment with our mission to create sustainable and historically authentic spaces.
